Wanderlust

I woke up this morning and realized I've been in Taiwan now for exactly six months. This amazes me at how quickly the time has flown by. This also scares me, because it's usually around six months that I start to feel restless and I want to move somewhere else. It happened in Thailand. It happened in California. And I think it's starting to happen in Taiwan.

I am in the process of applying for business school at the top University in Taiwan. There is a scholarship offered to foreigners that would pay for my tuition and provide a small living stipend so I wouldn't have to work while studying. I feel an MBA and fluency in Chinese would make me very marketable in a job hunt. However, it also means I would be stuck here for two more years.

Some other options include: teaching English in another country. Japan and Korea pay ridiculous amounts of money. Part of me wants to return to Southeast Asia, though. And another part would seriously consider South America if the wages weren't so low.

I also discovered a year long, working holiday visa in Australia. This would give me the option of working my way around Australia. Sure, most backpackers that do it end up picking fruit or waiting tables; but it would allow me to be a nomad again.

Anyway, Chinese New Year has just started. To escape the incessant fireworks, I am leaving for the Philippines in about two hours. I'm hoping this will temporarily solve my wanderlust.

Ideas and suggestions are welcome.

umm,.. i hear san diego is nice :) just fyi, i'm travel-starved too. the choice between traveling (fun, adventure, change, experience) and grad school (future financial freedom and stability) sucks.

Hey Bro - tough decision. My 2 cents - only go to Grad School if you have a tangible goal. Otherwise, see the rest of the world.

Australia is a good option. Not only because I am here, it's definitely THE place for you to fulfill your wanderlust!!!

Consider to spend 3-6 month here is a great idea, before you move on to grade school or any other country. MBA is a serious thing, man. Having a MBA plus Chinese skill are certainly good for your future, but need to make sure you are determined for that.
